Industry Trends: Machine Translation

Machine Translation (MT) is the use of automated software that translates text without human involvement.

A great example of MT is Google Translate, a translation tool provided by Google where you simply speak into the microphone, or type text into your smart device, and it will translate those words into the target language. This can be extremely helpful for travelers in foreign countries

Although it sounds like a quick fix to any language barrier, there is still an essential need for human translators. We frequently discuss the importance of localization and attention to detail because without it, cultural message can get lost.

With potential errors in the MT transcript, editing is required from linguists which adds an additional step to the translation process. It’s clear that there will always be a need for human translators!
